Active Neighboring News

Dear Friends,

Two things:

  • We are starting to put together the April-May edition of the Eastside Neighbor, so if your neighborhood group (of whatever sort) is hosting an event (spring clean up, picnic, block party) or simply holding a neighborhood meeting, send us the info and we’ll include it!
  • People ask how ANC is able to offer a substantial number of programs with our small staff of 2 fulltime and half dozen part-time people, and the answer is ‘you’—Last year 170 of you volunteered with one of our programs (Market, GardenHouse, housing, Breadbasket, outreach, etc.) and contributed over 9000 hours of work in the neighborhood. Volunteers and engaged neighbors make possible every single thing we do.  If you think you might want to get a little more involved, please don’t hesitate to call our indefatigable Heather Hymes at 999-3919 to talk about the possibilities.  For instance, we’re gearing up for a door to door canvass and survey of over 1000 households this summer—perhaps you’d be interested in being part of our canvassing team? Just let us know.  And thank you for all that you do for the Eastside.

1)  New Restoration Works- First Walk Through on 3/24

2)  Gardeners Roundtable begins this Sunday on 3/6

3)  New First Friday Land Use Luncheon on 3/4

4)  New MI Forum on Jobs and Human Needs on 3/5

5) New March Magic HoopFest, register by 3/5

6) Fenner Offerings and Requests

7)  New Spring Home Maintenance Classes—March-April

8.  New Bike Share Program in development-Weigh in!

9)  City’s Single Stream Recycling

10)  New Eastside Souper on 3/19

11) Two Great Classes for Parents

12) Where Would You Like to See Bike Racks?

13) Quiet Water Symposium on 3/5

14)  Workshop: “Connecting with Universities and Colleges”

15)  March Events at Everybody Reads

16)  Asthma Screening Day on 3/12
