Many citizens spoke in support of a Community Media Center at the public meeting on Wednesday, November 30th. This meeting was held to communicate citizens' concerns to the lawyers charged with conducting the cable franchise renegotiation between the city of Lansing and Comcast. Many important issues were raised, which the CACMC will take into serious consideration during our planning. These concerns include:
- Crafting a sound business plan to ensure that a CMC will not rely heavily on any municipality for its financial needs. Many successful CMCs already operate in this way, and we are certain we can meet this need.
- Ensuring partnerships with local community organizations, including educational, governmental, and religious access programming
- Respecting the community's multiple voices - the CMC in no way wishes to regulate the content of media as a form of censorship.
