The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Lansing City Pulse, Gone Wired Cafe, and Allen Neighborhood Center are proud to present:
J.A.M.: Jazz on the Avenue and at the Market
J.A.M is a summer jazz series on Lansing’s Eastside, that promotes and supports performances by young jazz musicians in the Lansing area. The purpose of JAM is to strengthen the jazz music scene on the Eastside via a youth-centered offering of jazz performances. We believe that promoting various art forms is an essential aspect of engaging and empowering young people, while also revitalizing and enhancing the Michigan Avenue Corridor. JAM will engage young, talented local musicians from Michigan State University and Lansing Community College Jazz Studies programs, providing them with venues for performing as well as opportunities to educate Eastside youngsters.
Performance Schedule
- July 16, 7-10 PM–The Peter Nelson Band. Gone Wired Cafe. Performance will be followed by a one-hour jam session, in which young audience members will be invited to join.
- July 21, 4:30-6 PM–Jon Beshay and Ralph Tope. The Allen Street Farmers Market.
-August 4, 4:30-6 PM–Royce Phillips and Matt LoRusso. The Allen Street Farmers Market.
- August 20, 7-10 PM–The Marcus Miller Band. Gone Wired Cafe. Performance will be followed by a one-hour jam session, in which young audience members will be invited to join.
We believe this initiative will strengthen the presence of jazz on the Eastside, and in the process contribute to the growing reputation of the area as one that supports the arts. Through participating in this summer series, the community will celebrate the creative energies and talent of youth, contributing to the support of the next generation of local musicians, and a more successful engagement and retention of young and talented area residents.
This project is funded by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and sponsored by the Lansing City Pulse, Gone Wired Cafe, and Allen Neighborhood Center.
